MA art education student awarded Kentucky Middle School Art Educator of the Year

Having taught art at Caldwell County Middle School since 2011, UF SA+AH graduate student Miranda Meeks knew that she wanted to enroll in a “strong art program” without leaving her school and students in Kentucky.

UF’s online graduate program in Art Education provided Meeks this opportunity through a combination of online instruction and rich studio experiences that promote the development of personal art practice and professional teaching skills. She continued:

“This program has challenged me and changed me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. It’s given me more depth as an artist and more confidence as an art educator. It’s paved the way for newly forged friendships with classmates and professors that make me wonder how I managed without out them before attending this program.”

As a practicing artist herself, Meeks’ passion is shared between making and teaching. The Kentucky Art Education Association recognized this passion at their 2015 Annual Fall convention by naming Meeks the “Kentucky Middle School Art Educator of the Year.”

She continues to use her life-long enthusiasm for the arts and teaching to motivate both her students and peers believing that creativity exists in everybody.
