The online Master of Arts in Art Education program engages students purposefully in art education theory and practice, contemporary art, and their own studio work. Our dynamic online learning environment fosters meaningful interaction among you and your classmates and our world-class faculty. The online MAAE curriculum provides you with a thorough understanding of the history and ongoing evolution of art education, and equips you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to meet the needs of diverse students and communities in our changing world. NASAD Accreditation - With National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) accreditation, the Master of Arts in Art Education program meets the highest level of accreditation standards.

The degree is ideal for educators, artists, and cultural professionals seeking to advance their teaching practice, expand into leadership roles, strengthen their studio practice, or pursue careers in education, museums, arts organizations, and community programs.

The MAAE curriculum balances art education theory with practical application, digital literacy, and immersive studio work. Students study topics such as curriculum theory, contemporary issues in art education, and advanced studio methods, and they complete a capstone project that integrates their learning.

UF provides an array of technology support resources and services to both online and on-campus learners. We use the technologically advanced and easy-to-use Canvas learning platform for online study. It provides online MAAE students with an online orientation module to familiarize them with the program, university policies and procedures, and the learning management system itself. You may also want to check out the UF Computer Help Desk website for more information about support services.

All University of Florida students, including those enrolled in online programs, gain access to Gator CareerLink, which is a platform where they can search through job postings, build resumes and connect with our career services.

In addition, online Master of Arts in Art Education students are eligible to apply for the UF graduate research award, which provides financial support for a variety of professional development and academic research activities.

We strongly encourage all students to attend our Residential Summer Studios, and local students may opt for other classes on campus during the fall, spring, or summer semesters, based on availability and eligibility. Please note that tuition for courses offered outside the online MAAE program may be higher.

Residential Summer Studio courses are short, intensive, in-person studio classes that allow students to focus deeply on their art practice, collaborate with peers, and create work in fully equipped studio spaces. Courses rotate annually and may include topics like sketchbook development, ceramics, and printmaking.

Students can complete the program without ever coming to campus but, as mentioned above, we strongly encourage students to attend our Residential Summer Studios. Students who successfully complete the program may also choose to attend the graduation ceremony.
